General Occupational Therapy
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy (OT) helps people participate in everyday activities as independently and safely as possible. An OT can assess functional ability, daily living tasks, mobility, equipment needs, home environments and rehabilitation goals.
Who can use your Occupational Therapy services?
We aim to support adults, children and families, as well as case managers, solicitors, insurers, care homes, private hospitals, schools and other healthcare organisations goals.
Where do you provide assessments?
Assessments may take place in a person’s home, care home, hospital, school, clinic or another suitable setting, depending on the referral and the availability of an appropriately qualified OT. UK-wide coverage should be confirmed for each referral.
Do I need a GP referral?
Not necessarily. Private referrals may be accepted directly from individuals, family members or authorised professionals, subject to the service requested and clinical suitability. Some funding arrangements or specialist services may require a formal referral.
Assessments & Reports
What happens during an OT assessment?
The OT discusses the person’s needs and goals, reviews relevant background information, assesses functional abilities and the environment where appropriate, and identifies recommendations. The assessment is tailored to the individual.
What does an OT assessment report include?
Depending on the service, the report may cover the referral question, relevant history, functional performance, identified risks, equipment or adaptation needs, recommendations and proposed next steps.
How long does an assessment take?
This depends on complexity, the assessment setting and the report required. We will confirm the expected appointment duration and any reporting arrangements before the assessment.
How quickly can I receive the report?
Timescales depend on the OT’s availability, case complexity and the amount of reporting required. We will agree an expected timeframe when the booking is confirmed.
Can you provide specialist neurological or paediatric OT?
We can seek appropriately experienced OTs for referrals involving neurological rehabilitation, acquired brain injury, stroke, developmental needs and paediatric assessments. Availability and suitability are confirmed case by case.
